At the age of thirty Ramsey  became a gubernatorial candidate in Texas. He ran for governor in 1972 and 1974. His campaign provided the awakening of the political consciousness for Mexican Americans, Hispanics, and Latinos in the entire South West.

Ramsey Muņiz spoke at many colleges and universities, including Texas A & I Kingsville, Harvard, Berkeley, Michigan, and Washington. This placed him in the company of the Reverend Billy Graham, Cesar Chavez, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Russell Means, Reies Lopez Tijerina, Corky Gonzales, Angela Davis, Reverend Ralph Abernathy, Coretta Scott King, Julian Bond, and  others. In addressing his audiences, Muņiz shared his message of the need for political, social, and spiritual consciousness.

Spiritual Consciousness

Voice for Many

Love for the People

A caring and compassionate gubernatorial candidate embraced the plight of the poor, laborers,   and  many others who needed a voice. His impact  was significant, but not as great as his desire to help his fellow man.

Ramsey Muņiz realized the need for Mexican Americans,  Hispanics and Latinos to have  representation in the realm of politics through  the United States electoral process. He stepped forward and became a candidate for governor in Texas running under the Raza Unida Party, an independent political party.

He and others, many of whom were students, made great contributions through their leadership in an  established democratic processs, and their success is an example to the youth of today who are not involved in the political process.
